About Michael:
There is something sublime about writing a book. Not necessarily in finishing it and finally seeing it in print, but in the actual making of it-the writing, the sequencing and re-sequencing of chapters, the book’s design and choice of papers and colors and fonts, then there is the selection and execution of artwork and photographs, and whether captions might be needed or if the visuals should simply stand out on their own.
These are all the choices that must be made regarding the cover and dust jacket, and then who you should ask to write the Introduction and Foreword. But best of all, there is the closeness of the process, when the essence of the book exists wholly in your own mind, when yours is the only soul to whom it is offering itself and there is no one else who knows what is steadily growing inside your spirit and flowing from your heart and hands and fingertips.
You field the ideas and words as they arrive and try to make them welcome. But exactly where they are coming from you dare not ask, lest you become tempted to try and apprehend them on your own and thus frighten them away. So you gather them as they come and are grateful.
